A Mama’s Guide to Avoiding Overwhelm This Holiday Season 🌪️

While many mothers would argue that the joy of making magic is the best part of the season, we can all agree that the invisible load of our holiday to-do lists becomes too much sometimes.

While we can’t necessarily give you a break, we can offer some advice during the last two weeks of the holiday season.

☑️ Do Less

No matter how tempting it might be to do the most this year, take any unnecessary tasks or events off your schedule. This season, we’re embracing the joy of missing out and finding rest and quiet wherever we can.

✂️Cut Out Meaningless Traditions

We have all fallen victim to doing Chrstiams traditions for traditions’ sake. While traditions are not bad, many become a hassle (I’m looking at you, Elf on the Shelf). Ask your family to pick a few traditions they want to keep, then throw everything else out.

👐 Let Go of Expectations

Don’t let your high expectations prevent you from enjoying the season. Sure, other moms’ Christmases might look different from yours, but that doesn't mean your Christmas is any less special. Holding yourself to others’ standards will only steal your joy.

🛑 Create Boundaries

You’re allowed and even encouraged to say no during the holidays. If you’re running on empty, it won’t do anyone any good if you over-commit to yet another holiday outing. Put up boundaries and stick to them this season.

⚖️ Divvy the Load

It’s okay to ask your partner to take over some magic-making tasks. Sit down with him in a marriage meeting, choose the holiday activities you want to do this season, and then decide who wants to take the kids to do them.

❤️ Be Kind to Yourself

If something doesn’t go how you expected or hoped, there’s no use dwelling on it. Lead with kindness in everything you do this season, especially towards yourself

How to Give Your Kids an Experience Instead of a Toy This Year ✈️

Many families like to gift their children experiences because they provide a fantastic bonding time for everyone, they create lasting memories, and they’re not going to break or go out of style, like a toy might.

If you’re curious about what an experience gift is and how to do it, keep reading!

Cater the Trip to Your Kiddos 🚸

Think about your kiddos when you’re deciding on the experience you want to gift your family. Keep your children’s ages in mind, as well as their interests. There are so many experiences you can choose from, it’s easy to find and book something that will work for all your family.

Wrap Something 🎁

Even though you can’t wrap up all the fun and excitement your kids will have with their experience, it’s nice to wrap something and put it under the tree for your kids to open on Christmas morning. Find an ornament, a stuffed animal, or a book for your kids to unwrap, and ask them to guess why they got it.

Know Your Options 🚌

There are thousands of different experiences you can choose from. Do your research to find the best option that works with your family. If you’re not sure where to start, here are a few ideas to help you get started.
