How to Prevent Your Toddler from Overeating this Thanksgiving 🌽 🍗 🥔 🥧

Surprisingly, one of the first things toddlers comprehend is their eating habits and limits. They know what they do and don’t want to eat, when they’re full, and when they want seconds. That doesn’t necessarily mean they should be on their own fixing a plate for Thanksgiving, but it should ease some of your stress.

Although a toddler’s grasp on their tummies is extremely impressive, parents can use meals like Thanksgiving to aid their little one’s journey and help them understand food, limitations, and more.

Here are some practical and simple tips to prevent your toddler from overeating this Thanksgiving.

Six Thanksgiving Hosting Hacks for Busy Mammas 🏡

Although it’s impossible to take all the Thanksgiving stress off your plate, there are some stressors that you can remove from your list before the big day comes.

  1. Limit Your Cleaning

Cleaning the house from top to bottom is a huge energy sucker. Your family isn’t going to take a white glove and check your basement, laundry room, or master bedroom during turkey day, so don’t stress about cleaning them!

You don’t deep clean the rooms your family will see. No one will care if you forget to dust a shelf, we promise.

  1. Choose Your Homemade Dishes Wisely

If you can’t have Thanksgiving without Grandma’s homemade cranberry sauce, make it! Choose a few dishes (three at most) you have to make on your own, then buy the rest. No one cares if you bring a store-bought pie to Thanksgiving.

  1. Choose Elegant Disposable Plates and Napkins

One of the easiest things you can take off your plate are the plates themselves! Opt for pretty disposable plates and napkins, rather than your finest china. No one will complain and clean up will be easy. We suggest using real silverware, as plastic tends to break, but more power to you if you go all disposable.

  1. Reuse and DIY

You don’t need to buy anything this Thanksgiving. The beautiful thing about Thanksgiving is it’s very nature-based. Have the kids run out and grab branches or leaves, reuse un-cut pumpkins from Halloween, and make a craft table for the kiddos to make DIY place settings.

  1. Create a Sign-Up Sheet

If you’re hosting, you don’t need to cook everything. Send out a link and ask your family to bring their dishes, even if that means they take over your kitchen for the morning. You can volunteer to make a few things, but the weight shouldn’t fall squarely on your shoulders.

  1. Eat Later

Thanksgiving dinner does not have to start at one in the afternoon. Have dinner later in the afternoon or evening to ease the pressure. Pop some cinnamon rolls in the oven the morning of and have a few veggies out by noon, you’ll be fine!
