Why Does My Toddler Love to Clean so Much? 🧹

@_nurane.s.j

Cleaning baby is back. 🫧🧹 #cleaningbaby #sweeperbaby #sweeperlife

If you bought your toddler a broom or one of those toy Dyson vacuum cleaners for Christmas, you know. There’s a reason so many companies have a wide selection of cleaning toys for tots and kids. But why are our little ones so addicted to chores

Laura Phillips, a neuropsychologist, and Sofia Dumery, the senior vice president at Melissa & Doug, cite several reasons toddlers are drawn to cleaning pretend play

🪞They Love to Imitate You

Children are natural imitators. That’s how they learn, grow, and develop certain habits. Whether you’re cleaning every day or every week, if it’s a common enough occurrence,  they’ll remember your actions and attempt to recreate them.

👍 It Makes Them Feel Good

All of the stress cleaners know the boost of serotonin they get from cleaning all too well. Kids feel joy too, whether they’re actually cleaning or not. Dumery and Phillips both agree that pretend cleaning allows children to grow in their independence, self-esteem, and confidence

🧹 It’s Accessible

Not only do toddlers see brooms and other cleaning materials getting ‘played with’ every day by their parents, but they also know that cleaning is always an option. Plus, most parents give their little ones small jobs like cleaning up after themselves, so they know what to do.

Toy Rotations Are the Key to a Lasting Playtime 🪀

Only our toddlers could have a room full of toys and still get bored within seconds. They do see the same toys every day. That’s why many mamas are rotating their kid’s toys. Rotating your tot’s toys is easy. Fill a container with new toys each week, then swap out the toys based on their category. Constantly changing your kid’s toys creates a more meaningful playtime.

How to Get Rid of Sunday Scaries Once and For All 😨

Sunday scaries are (unfortunately) a universal experience. But there are several ways to quell them before they destroy your weekend. Make sure you’re well rested, get a few small things done before Monday, make Sunday nights fun for your family, and don’t put too much stress on your Monday to-do list. It’s also good to remember that the week ahead is never as bad as it seems on Sunday night.
