While priooritizing your children’s emotions is crucial, many parents are opting out of this trend. Gentle parenting practices are not backed by research. Studies have found that gentle parenting is not as effective for children with behavioral issues.

Here are some healthy and effective alternatives to gentle parenting:

❌ Use Consequences

You’re allowed to discipline your child healthily to teach them right from wrong. If you’ve communicated what your child is and isn’t allowed to do and they immediately disobey you, implementing consequences might help them learn. 

💬 Use Your Words

Use healthy and effective communication when you’re talking to your kids. If they’re not allowed to do something, or if what they’re doing is hurting you, tell them. Effective communication will help your children learn.

🛑 Set Boundaries

Instead of letting your kids’ feelings control your decisions, know your limits. Setting boundaries as a mother is one of the best ways to teach your children respect. Remember, you’re the parent, you’re allowed to make the rules. 

🤝 Work Together

If you like the communication that gentle parenting promotes, introduce it into your parenting style. Let your child know they can come to you and express their feelings. While they still might not get everything they want, approaching your children’s issues with them teaches them problem-solving and lets them know you’re on their team.

As we settle into the after-Christmas lull (and face threatening snowstorms throughout the U.S.), it’s natural to feel bluer than usual. Many people suffer from seasonal affective disorder around this time of the year. Changing your routine -- whether work, sleep, or workout, getting in the sun, embracing the joy of winter, and getting out of the house are some of the best ways to beat the winter blues this year.

Rolling your tot’s clothes cuts folding time in half, creates space in your toddler’s drawers, and helps you see all their clothes at a glance!
